Jennifer Lawrence and David O. Russell are back to take over the Oscars again… at least that’s what everyone is saying. The teaser trailer for Joy was released today and it already has people predicting wins for both Lawrence and Russell.
Lawrence plays Joy, a character based on Joy Mangano, the Long Island housewife who invented the Miracle Mop. Indiewire reports the film’s official synopsis as “…the wild story of a family across four generations, centered on the girl who becomes the woman who founds a business dynasty and becomes a matriarch in her own right.”
It’s Russell’s third film with both Lawrence and co-star Bradley Cooper, thus the heavy Oscar buzz. Not to mention the cast is stacked with big players like Robert De Niro and Isabella Rossellini. It’s set to release on Christmas Day.
The trailer is cheekily set to a choral version of the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and I may have squealed a little when Dascha Polanco from Netflix’s Orange is the New Black made an appearance. I am ready for greatness, but still a little skeptical.
Check the trailer out yourself and weigh in. Oscar material or not?
