Talia Lavin won America’s heart this week when she used a famous SNL skit in her final Jeopardy answer.
Lavin wrote down, “What is the love ballad of Turd Ferguson”, as her answer to the clue: “This song from a 1999 animated film about censorship had a word censored from its Oscar performance.”
In the clip the joke seems to go over Trebek’s head, but SNL fans across the nation made the clip of Lavin’s final round an internet sensation. The joke is a reference to SNL’s reoccurring Jeopardy sketch and Burt Reynolds’ (played by Norm MacDonald) insistence on being called Turd Ferguson during the game.
In an interview with the Daily Beast Lavin says, “I had only 30 seconds to think of a joke that was clean enough to make it on the air. That was the extent of the premeditation.” Her quick thinking has landed her in a moment of internet glory. Well played, Talia.
