Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are back. It seems impossible to follow-up the duplo summer hits Thrift Shop and Can’t Hold Us with anything even close to approaching that level of awesome. They may have done it.
After releasing a mellow tribute to his daughter, Growing Up, and facing his returning addiction problems, Macklemore and his partner in crime Ryan Lewis dropped Downtown. Let’s take you through the paces of the song.
The song starts off in almost typical Macklemore fashion, sitting on a moped followed by opposite moonwalking and a simple piano ditty. This seams familiar.
Next we’re shopping for mopeds, like thrift shopping for vehicles. This seems familiar. Macklemore’s rapping is fresh but otherwise we’re not buying this yet.
Now Grandmaster Caz, Grandmaster Melle Mel, and Kool Moe Dee show up and it sounds like we’re listening to Sugarhill Gang.
The beat is too enjoyable to fight. There’s a mention of Uber. This is a new song!
Now there’s some female vocals and the whole tune changed. There’s chanting. Is that Michael Jackson singing?
Now we’re back to 80s hip-hop sounds. It’s too likable. Cant’s stand it.
