James Bond has always been male, but should he always be male? Former Bond Pierce Brosnan sure seems to think so.
The 62-year-old actor was in Britain promoting his latest movie, Lessons In Love, when he was asked by Press Association who he thought would be cast as the next 007 after current Bond, Daniel Craig, finishes his duties.
“Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white,” Pierce said. “There’s wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond.
“But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”
Last month Pierce told Details that a gay Bond could be “interesting,” but producer Barbara Broccoli likely would “forbid” it in her lifetime.
“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond. Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence,” Pierce said then. “But I think Daniel will be there for a while yet.”
Times are changing, Pierce, and James is quickly becoming a gender neutral name so you may see a female Bond sooner than you think. Whether you like it or not.
